About us

Vet LUS Expert – we are a team of human doctors and veterinarians focused on training veterinarians in transthoracic lung ultrasound of small animals.

Katarzyna Kraszewska, PhD, DVM and Michał Gajewski, DVM

We are veterinary clinicians with a special interest in veterinary cardiology and pulmonology. For over 10 years we’ve been working in these fields at the VETcardia cardiopulmonary referral in Warsaw, and consulting patients in many other clinics in Warsaw and around Poland. We are also members of the European Society of Veterinary Cardiology (ESVC).

In our everyday practice we deal with patients with congenital defects and acquired diseases of the cardiovascular system and treat patients with chronic diseases of the respiratory system (chronic bronchitis, tracheal collapse, chronic interstitial lung disease, and others). We also consult patients with acute respiratory distress in emergency situations.

Due to large numbers of patients experiencing breathing difficulties which we have consulted as part of a differential diagnostic process we decided to start performing transthoracic lung ultrasound (LUS) in dogs and cats. It did not take long before this modality became our everyday tool.

In 2018 Katarzyna Kraszewska took part in a lung ultrasound course for medicine doctors at Roztoczańska Szkoła Ultrasonografii (RSU) in Zamość. Later that year Dr Gajewski attended the same course. We then adapted the technique of performing LUS examination to fit veterinary patients, created diagnostic algorithms, and treatment plans for our patients. Since 2019 we organize courses in transthoracic lung ultrasound for veterinarians. We wish to share our knowledge, experience, and practical skills of LUS with practitioners around the globe.

Dr Natalia Buda is a human medicine specialist who offers essential knowledge in the field, and is a speaker at our courses, leading our participants through the basics of LUS. He is an indisputable authority in the field of lung ultrasound with 47 publications about lung ultrasound in human medicine.
